Why is my baby getting snotty?

Could be a cold: Congestion in babies might be do to a viral cold. If your baby is not having fever, try a cool mist humidifier in the room and also saline nose drops. If your child is acting ill, having labored breathing or has high fever, he/she may need to be seen by your doctor. Gastroesophageal reflux may also be a common cause of persistent congestion in babies. In older babies/kids, it could be allergies.

?age?: The first months are troubled by narrow nasal passages & exposure to dust, fragrences, smoke & other irritants.Baby tries to flush these out of the nose with mucous but this often ends as congestion & produces rattling with breathing. The best rx is washing out the nose with saline & suctioning the remainder. Eliminate irritants from babies environment & this will happen less.

Snotty nose: Snotty nose can be due to viral infection, too much mucous due to allergy . Saline drops can be used to unblock nose. If baby gets high fever, rashes, too sleepy, not arouse able, not wetting nappies , not accepting feeds then please see a doctor.
