Could be dangerous: An overactive thyroid needs to be evaluated and treated. Excessive amount of thyroid hormone levels can lead to severe complications, including rapid heart beat, hypertension, elevated liver enzymes and potentially heart failure. Sometimes one lab shows overactive thyroid (low tsh) nut normal thyroid hormones (t4 and t3). This is subclinical hyperthyroidism and sometimes is monitored closely.
