A member asked:

What can happen to the kidneys of diabetics?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Damage if uncontroll: Uncontrolled diabetes for a long period of time (10 years in type ii and 5 years in type i) can cause kidney damage called diabetic nephropathy. This can lead to end stage renal disease (dialysis) if the diabetes still isn't controlled. But if your diabetes is controlled ( a1c < 7) you can prevent this.
