Claustrophobic : Usually for this type of surgery a general anesthetic is not necessary unless you have severe phobia. Your doctor may use light sedation and local anesthetic to numb the cornea.

No: You can have sedation to help you relax, but you must be awake and cooperative for your lasik.

Not needed: The lasik procedure is normally done under local anesthesia for the eye alone. Neither sedation or general anesthesia is indicated. The procedure is not very painful. Patient concerns or apprehension about the surgery should be managed with a frank and open discussion with the eye doctor.
