Allergy meds: Antihistamines can help. Some are less sedating (zyrtec, allegra, etc) than older medicines (benadryl) but all of these can be very useful. Prescription nose sprays (flonase, nasacort, (triamcinolone) etc) can also be very helpful. Simply washing your nose out regularly with saline nose spray or a netti pot can also give you good relief.

Try meds, get tested: Stuffy nose has many causes, including allergies (like dust mites or pet dander) or non allergic causes such as temperature changes or tobacco smoke. You can try allergy pills like Loratadine or Cetirizine over the counter but the quickest way to get better is to see an allergist and get allergy tested so the correct medications can be selected.

Start simple: If you think it's an allergy then start with an over the counter antihistamine such as Claritin or zyrtec. If you see no improvement then it's probably not a simple allergy and a trip to your doctor makes sense. Sometimes low grade sinus infections can cause chronic nasal blockage. Sometimes messed up anatomy can do it such as a deviated septum. An ENT doctor can also be of great help.
