Behavior patterns?: Depression is often accompanied by loss of appetite, or compulsive eating, disturbed sleep patterns, social isolation, self abasement, lack of interest in personal appearance. A sense of hopelessness and helplessness often accompanies depression. Depression may be chronic, or triggered by difficult situations such as disappointed expectations, grief over loss of loved ones, loss of job.

Simply tell them: Depression is common with lupus. It is not a crime to be depressed. The crime is not doing something about it. Talk to your docs so you can address the issue.

Depression: Tell your doctor about your mood, energy level, concentration, memory, self esteem, motivation levels, sex drive, sleep ; appetite. Crying spells, feelings of helplessness or hopelessness are pertinent as well as your capacity to feel joy. Let your doctor know immediately if you have suicidal thoughts.

There are many: Things you can do for depression. Don't isolate. Spend time w people. Use your support system. Get out. Don’t stagnate at home. Work to get 8 hours or > of sleep per night ; eat healthfully. Daily aerobic physical activity is a big +. Recommend the “feeling good book" by dr. David burns. Don't just read it - do it! please remain open to seeing a doctor if these self help tips don't do the job.

Concierge consult: Look into family history of depression and bipolar disorder before you invest in the consult as family history is important. Go on line and read about depression. You can do a Beck inventory or other screening test for symptoms of depression. if you need Meds there are resources to help pay for them then consult with a psychiatrist who is on health tap and licensed in your state.
