Confused?: They may have been thinking about Aspirin which should not be given to an infant because of the risk of reyes syndrome. Properly dosed Ibuprofen (motrin is a brand) should be ok.

I do not think so: You could use Motrin for children.

It's fine...: If you have an otherwise healthy baby, it is fine to use occassional doses of ibuprofen. I wouldn't use it 4 times a day ad infinitum without talking to your doc, but a dose here and there for teething or pain is fine. Remember, there are two strengths of liquid Ibuprofen - an infant concentration and a child concentration. Make sure you know how many milligrams to give and meausre it accurately!

Teething pain: Either Motrin or tylenol (acetaminophen) (appropriate formulation & dose of each is important as they have changed) can be used for fever or pain; motrin, however, has added benefit of being anti-inflammatory. Ice to gums helps too.

Partly true: Ibuprofen is approved for use in infants at least 6 mo of age when recommended by a physician.During the earlier time the kidneys are finishing their development to prepare for a long life. The med has a direct effect on blood vessels & in rare cases can produce kidney injury.I find many physicians are unaware of this risk.I have no difficulty recommending its use after 6 mo at proper dose/interval

Medications: ALL medications have side effects. It's a risk-benefit decision. Talk to your Pediatrician about teething aids such as simply gently massaging the gums, using cold teething rings, etc. He/she will have lots of suggestions. As an aside, start your child off on the right foot. See a Pediatric Dental Specialist for initial dental exam @ age 1. Never put baby to bed w a bottle.
