Splint it: Splint the toe to the toe next to it and wear a wide shoe to keep pressure off the toe.

A surgical shoe : Is a good idea to wear as the bottom is stiff. Often times with a broken toe one will get pain during the propulsive phase of gait which is eliminated with a surgical shoe.

Broken baby toe: An xray should be obtained to make sure that the fracture in the broken toe did not cross into the total joint if it is in the total joint it may require surgery to help eliminate the pain. I agree that you should wear a postop or surgical shoe.
