A member asked:

Why would an infant's fingers & toes always be clenched?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Common finding early: In early infancy the babies often clinch their fingers to any stimulus on their palm and toes if anything touches their forefoot pad. These are primitive reflexes that give way to relaxed fingers and toes over time. The hand clinch is gone by the time they can grasp and release from 4-6m while the toe grasp can remain until the end of the first year.Failure to fade is a neurologic problem.
