Some times: Shoulder pain is "referred" from a primary neck problem -- disc with nerve root pressure. The body confuses the origin of the discomfort. Not sure what the dislocations would have to do with it, unless the events were severe and the doc is worried about nerve injury in that basis.

Unk: You wouldn't be able to see anything in the spine from a shoulder mri. Maybe the radiologist saw something on the scout films for the MRI and advised a follow up study.
