Yes: You can take medicines to help thin out the phlegm: Robitussin is one such medicine. Just take the plain Robitussin without dm or any other additive. Another good medicine is Mucinex (guaifenesin) (which is Robitussin in pill form). Again, plain Mucinex (guaifenesin) without any additive. That should help. If you still can't breathe, see your doc.
