Pain: There is always the risk that some of your intra-abdominal contents will become trapped in the hernia. If fat gets caught, this can cause pain. If intestine gets caught, this can cause bowel obstruction with nausea, vomiting, and pain. Eventually, this can lead to your intestine bursting, which can be life threatening.

Variable : Untreated, the hernia could get larger, or become incarcerated, which could lead to complications with repair, or require emergency care. While this could be serious, the chance it happens is probably very low. Having said that, it is also unpredictable. See a general surgeon for more info.
