A member asked:

I have tonsillitis but on my medical form that i had to fill out for school the doctor wrote acute tonsillitis. what does that mean?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Brief & severe: An acute illness is one that is brief and severe. In the case of tonsillitis it means that it bothers you alot but if properly treated with antibiotics will heal and go away. A chronic illness is one that has long term duration. Chronic tonsillitis does not resolve with antibiotics and usually requires removal of the tonsils.
