Be healthy: There are no "shortcuts" to viral infections. The best approach is to get plenty of rest, exercise regularly, and eat a well-balanced diet to give your immune system all the tools it needs to do its job.

A 35-year-old member asked:
What is the best treatment for acute sinusitis?

Saline washes: Acute sinusitis symptoms are similar to an upper respiratory infecion but more severe and includes purulent drainage with sinus and facial pain. It lasts longer than the usual 7-10 days of a normal cold. Saline washes or lavage are very helpful along with topical and oral decongestants. Occasionally antibiotics are needed if the saline washes and decongestants aren't helping.

A 30-year-old member asked:
Suffering from acute sinusitis, what is the best thing to take for horrible headaches?

Decongestants: The headache from acute sinusitis is due to sinus pressure, because the sinuses can't drain. While you're waiting for the antibiotics to work, using a decongestant nasal spray such as oxymetazoline 0.05% will help open up the sinuses, letting off the pressure.

Follow the instructions not the oxymetazoline (Afrin) carefully. You can becomes addicted to it if you use it for more than 3 days.
