There is no magic: Sadly it is up to your body how long you are sick with a cold. Usually the best ways to recover are intuitive, rest, especially when you feel tired, baby yourself, have some chicken soup (it works- ask my mother!) . Vitamin c, orange juice, vitamins, zinc will do nothing to shorten the length of the cold. Careful use of decongestants may prevent secondary infections like sinusitis and help sleep.

Pelargonium sidoides: The herb pelargonium sidoides, the root of a geranium native to south africa, is the best-proven treatment for colds, sinus infections & sinusitis. It's the first thing i (& my family) take when getting sick & has helped hundreds of my patients. It is widely available in a product called umcka, sold at health food stores & many pharmacies. Time/supplements: There are a couple supplements that may help colds resolve faster, one is the chinese herbal supplement Yin Chiao (many brands), the other is Respigard (Nature's Nurse), a tonic made from red mangrove from Fiji. Both of these must be taken at the first sign of a cold to be effective. Once a cold is in full force you just have to wait it out.

Self-care: Rest, avoid physical exertion, drink plenty of fluids (2 liters per day). Cold medicines such as nyquill and Dayquil may help with the symptoms but will not make it go away faster.
