Don't use meth: Please don't use meth or any substance like that including alcohol if you are pregnant. Meth and all those substances- do not just come in and come out the baby's system. Those agents are toxin to baby's system and are able to alter / change/ destroy the very early and fragile body systems of the baby- most importantly vital organs like brain and nervous organ and other organ systems of the baby.

Many possibilities: The meth a fetus is exposed to will be gradually removed through the mother and active drug will be gone when it is out of mothers system. However, some will be deposited in the meconium or fecal debris accumulating in babies intestine. That is where i look (test) for exposure. It can/will remain detectable for weeks after use.

Define remain: Urine studies from a newly born infant would likely be clear if the mom had abstained for the week prior to delivery. If there were suspicions about drug use, the hospital staff could send the babies poo for studies that would show meth use within the preceding month or months.

Please tell doctor: Please tell your doctor you're using meth, and get help. You're risking your own health plus the health of your baby. You may wonder whether meth will show in your baby when born, but the real problem is that any maternal meth abuse is associated with premature birth, growth retardation, & long-term learning problems in children. http://www.crystalmethaddiction.org/meth_and_pregnancy.htm.

Meth detectable in poop: But read this from a website i found, :i used to work in a medical foster home for drug-affected babies who were taken at birth by the state. Most of these babies required 24 hour nursing care. I think the real question is not "will the drugs still be in the baby's system" but "how affected will this baby be by the drugs it's mommy was taking?" i could not agree more. It will be detectable in the babies first poop called meconium.

Meth and pregnancy: I would discuss this with your gyn. Each case is different and there is only 1 person who can evaluate your physical and psychological readiness for motherhood, and that is your own gyn. Best wishes for a sober mom and a healthy baby.
