A member asked:

Have a distended gallbladder with no stones. also have a lot of gas in abdomen. is it related and what is treatment for distended gallbladder?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

IT DEPENDS: Not all diseased gallbladders have stones. About 10% of gallbladders removed, due to symptoms , have no stones. They just fail to empty appropriately, leading to pain, bloating, increased gas, and nausea. A functional test (hida scan) of the gallbladder can be ordered, and if the gallbladder is not emptying appropriately, removal will usually improve symptoms. Good luck.
