Referral: You can look in the many listings online and go to the aap website. Best bet is to ask your dentist and/or contact the prosthodontists in your area and ask them for a referral. We work with periodontists on a regular basis and often for gingival surgery treatments. Then call the offices, and ask if the doctor does these on a regular basis. Some do, some don't. Always ask -- don't be afraid to.

Common: Graft surgery for severe gingival recession is very common. The front of lower anterior teeth is a very common site for pathological recession due to tension from lip pulling. Upper canine and bicuspids frequently have the gums pull away from roots leading to bone loss. All periodontist are well trained in this surgical procedure. It is a highly successful repair. Talk to your dentist for name.

Routine: I don't like the word routine, but in the case of treating gum recession that is the word periodontists use. Ask your dentist to recommend a periodontist.
