Lymphocytes 48 and neutrophils 42 with normal wbc , what does it mean?

Normal: It means normal. Those numbers are percentages from the total wbc. No need to worry. If you still worry- you should discuss that with the doctor who ordered the test.
Dr. Michael Dugan
Specializes in Hematology
Not much: The absolute numbers are more interesting than the percentages, but on a normal total WBC percentages of 48 neuts and 42 llymphs completely unremakable.
Dr. Agos Luca
Specializes in Pathology
Hard to say...: The numbers you provided are probably percentages. Since absolute counts are really the important ones, an answer cannot be provided without the exact WBC count.

A 25-year-old female asked:

I'm anemic and have high neutrophils (80%) and low lymphocytes (14%) with normal wbc. What could this mean?

Demand explanation: There are hundreds of causes of anemia. It is your right to demand to know why, from your physician. We can't tell without the information that he/she should have or should obtain. The percentages mean nothing in the absence of absolute counts; even if one of the absolute counts is a little bit out of the reference range, ti's probably not a concern.
