Can heat cause a gout attack?

No: Gout is caused by abnormally high levels of uric acid in the blood due to eating foods high in purines or due to kidney dysfunction in the clearance of uric acid. A blood test can be done to see if the uric acid level is elevated.

No: Heat does not typically trigger gout attacks. Gout is caused by high uric acid levels in the blood. This occurs due to genetic factors and/or diet. Red meat, certain types of seafood, high fructose corn syrup, and alcohol are to be reduced if a person suffers from gout.
