Depends on infection: The term infection here is too broad. Infection refers to an invasion of the body with either virus, fungus or bacteria or other bugs. Some infections, such as the flu and the common cold will get better all on their own without seeing a doctor. Others such as skin infections or strep throat can produce signficant illness and require antibiotics. Until you are sure- see a doctor!
