Do people who get lasik surgery need reading glasses later on in life?

Depends: On the type of correction they received. If someone has both eyes corrected for distance then they will need reading glasses (or a contact lens) to see well at close in the 40's. If they had a mono-vision correction, then they will not.

Maybe: If patients have lasik for distance vision in both eyes, then they will need reading glasses after age 45 or so. If they have monovision treatment, then they will not need reading glasses for most near tasks.

Yes: Lasik is a distance correction. After the age of 40-45 the loss of focusing ability will require reading glasses. The only other alternative is to set one eye for distance and the other for near (monovision). This should be discussed fully before selecting this result, and probably trialed in contact lenses first.
