Yes, mild pain: It is normal to have mild pain, especially with strenuous activity, at the site of an umbilical hernia repair for a few weeks after surgery. Severe pain, or pain lasting longer, is unusual. If the pain is severe, and especially if there is a bulge in that area, you should see the surgeon promptly to make sure that the hernia has not recurred.
