Is it possible to get arthritis from cracking your joints?

Probably Not: This is not felt to increase the risk of arthritis, though no formal study has been conducted (there was one md who used himself as a test subject, cracking his knuckles on one hand only for many years, but a study with one subject is not considered robust).

Unlikely: Virtually all doctors will tell you no. However, the bursting of nitrogen bubbles which causes the cracking sound may increase the heat inside the joint and thereby possibly damage cartilage after years of cracking.
