However, the process usually repeats itself in a different area or areas after a few more days, weeks, months or even years.

Years: The degree of geographic tongue episodes will vary over your lifetime but it does not go away completely. It is usually more severe when younger. Stress, hormonal changes, etc, seem to make it worse.
