A member asked:

Do the cervix softens right after pregnancy occur or do it take awhile?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Cervix: The cervix doesn't soften at conception. The cervix retains its integrity until labour. If the cervix softens prematurely, the foetus would be lost. When the obstetrician speaks of dilation, (s)he is referring to the cervix dilating to 10 cm ( ~4 inches).
