Stop chewing: Tobacco is bad for you, no matter what route it is ingested by. Chewing tobacco, snuff and snus all can cause throat irritation. If you are truly "infected", you need to see a doctor to find out if it is a bacterial (especially strep) infection, which requires antibiotics, or a viral infection, which can be treated with gargling and time. Tobacco will make irritation from any other cause worse.
