Crown generally: If the tooth is half broken and has that much tooth structure missing, a crown would probably be the better option. A dentist who can personally examine you and see an x-ray of the tooth would be in a better position to give you the best answer to your questions.

Depends on tooth.: If you fractured a front tooth a veneer may be your best option if enough tooth remains to bond to. The veneer can be made with less removal of tooth structure than is required for a crown preparation. See your dentist who can evaluate your tooth and advise you if a veneer is an option.

Either: They can both correct it depending on how broken the tooth is. Ask your dentist what's best for your tooth.

Depends: Depends upon several factors- has tooth had a root canal or need one, where the break is- does the break go below the gum line, etc. If you have doubts, get more than one opinion.

The rule of thumb: Of course porcelain veneers are very durable and can act as a splint for teeth with minor chipping and cracking. However, they cannot be applied when less than 50% of a tooth's natural structure remains. Veneers are not designed to fully restore damaged teeth, crowns are.
