Hard to tell : Without a radiograph (x-ray) and a visual examination. There are a variety of dental problems that can make chewing painful. These include, but are not limited to, decay, traumatic injury, poor occlusion (bite), harmful habits (ie. Biting pens, finger nails), a history of clenching or grinding your teeth, just to mention a few. See your dentist for a thorough evaluation and treatment.

Tooth sensitivity: Is the sensitivity is due to temperature or pressure of biting? If there an event or trauma which occured prior to the 5th which may of caused this sensitivity? An examination by your denrtist is your next step.
