A member asked:

Can crooked teeth cause one's lips to not be symmetrical?

Absolutely: Our facial features are determined by the development of the bones, teeth, lips, tongue, and all structures of the head and neck. Any deformities or malposition of these structures can affect the shape of the surrounding structures. Visit your dentist for a referral to an orthodontist

Maybe: The muscles of the face cause the lips to retract upward and backward. If there is any issue with the muscles (ie: bell's palsy ) then assymetry will be present. A very prominent tooth may cause some distortion of the lips, I have not witnessed as of 25 years in practice.

Absolutely: If teeth and their supporting jaw structures are asymmetric, the overlying facial drape can also be asymmetric. Ask your dentist to refer you to a qualified orthodontic specialist who treats facial asymmetry.
