A member asked:

I was running a marathon and and towards the end my hands swelled up so big that i couldnt see my knuckles or close my hands. why did this happen?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Energy shortage: And i mean cellular energy. Food has to provide the energy for its function, a very complex process that depends on the right fuel and an appropriate "engine" in each cell. The engines of the cell are mitochondria and you have to match energy production to consumption. The marathon was consuming energy that (for reasons within the affected cells) affected the hands because of inadequate energy.
