A member asked:

Can you continue tmj therapy while having a root canal?

8 doctors weighed in across 4 answers

It depends: Root canal treatment involves the patient wearing a rubber dam on their tooth and staying open for an extended period of time. As a result, this procedure can sometimes increase your TMJ symptoms. Talk to yor dentist about how you can best handle your TMJ problem.

Yes: Root canal treatment should not interfere with TMJ treatments. If you wear an appliance you may need to avoid wearing it for a few days if it is painful when wearing.

Yes: Also make your endodontist aware of the fact that you have TMJ problems and are undergoing treatment. They may want to speak with your TMJ dentist. They may also want to work in shorter time blocks so that your joint isn't stressed.
