Anal dysfunction?: Consider deficient internal sphincter tone due to trauma, rectal prolapse, prolapsing hemorrhoids, drug effects, fecal impaction (in neurologic disorders). Anal manometry testing with biofeedback may help if dysfunction is determined. Sigmoidoscopy may however be appropriate in first physically evaluating the rectum & anal canal.
