A member asked:

In what order does organ failure occur after the liver shuts down?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

No Specific Order ..: There is generally no specific order. Once the liver begins to fail, large dilated veins in the esophagus can develop. In addition, fluid can begin to accumulate in the abdomen. As the liver function fails, patients can develop confusion (hepatic encephalopathy), low blood proteins, and worse clotting.
