How contagious is pink eye? how is it spread?

Extremely: Another term for pink eye (viral conjunctivitis) is epidemic keratoconjunctivitis, emphasis on "epidemic." the virus is found in the tears and can survive on surfaces (tabletops, chairs, etc.) for many days. If you touch this surface and then touch your eye you can get the disease. Frequent hand washing and cleaning such surfaces can reduce transmission. It is not spread by other bodily fluids.

Viral pink eye: is very contagious. To prevent pink eye Avoid close contact with people who have pink eye (as nose/throat droplets can spread infection). Your hands can become infected by touching secretions on someone's hand or on contaminated surfaces. Wash hands often – especially before touching your eyes.
