Hard to tell: It depends upon many factors including your health, oral hygiene, habits, diet, and genes. Without examining and knowing more about you it will be hard to tell. I would suggest that you talk with your dentist. He or she should be able to help you.

Usually gingival: Problems are a result of inadequate home and professional care. You post gives very little info, so giving you advice as to what caused your problem becomes a guessing game.. And that is not what you deserve. Seek the care of a local dentist who can examine you and advise you.
