My husband has periodontal disease, is there anything i can do to help him?

Encourage......: Your husband to see his dentist, to perform perfect home care and to eat well. Periodontal disease is a bacterial infection, it takes a dentist, hygienist or periodontist along with the patient to attain great results. This has to be treated daily to reduce the bacteria and I have found that using perioprotect trays (simple to wear, non-surgical treatment) my patients have obtained great results.

Consider yourself: It is important for your husband to seek treatment to prevent the progression of periodontal disease, but it is also important for you. The bacteria can be transferred with kissing (swapping saliva). It does not stay on it's side of the fence. Be encouraging for both of your concern.

Oral hygiene: Oral hygiene home care is very important to the treatment outcome of periodontal disease. Patient should bush and floss to prevent plaque and calculus build up. You could be his personal coach, who would motivate him in following his home care regimen. Consult with his dentist and establish a team effort and involved your children as well.
