Periodontal disease: Periodontal disease is an infection. It will not go away on it's own. It needs to be treated by a dentist. Once treated, it can re-occur if proper oral hygiene is not maintained. There also needs to be regular follow-up treatment by your dentist.

See your dentist: Periodontal disease will continue causing destruction of gum and supporting structures around the tooth until your dentist trats you. Periodontitis is a silent disease, only your dentist can diagnose and treat it.

Bacterial infection: Perfect oral hygiene and daily reduction of the bacteria will offer a better long-term solution as this disease only gets worse w/time. Consider perio protect system- daily use, easily worn trays that in university testing has been show to significantly reduce bacteria, thus allowing the patient to heal. This treatment does not rely on antibiotics as bacteria become resistant. www.perioprotect.com.
