Maybe not.: The brace is used to decrease your pain and increase stability. If it is causing more swelling, it could mean that you are upright much more when you are wearing the brace and more swelling is generated, the brace is on incorrectly or is too tight, or that you don't need it. Speak to the provider that gave you the brace.

Ankle Brace Swelling: If the foot was swollen from the ankle sprain & you have not worn any compression, or not doing any movement-which would allow your foot & leg muscles to contract & pump blood back-then swelling could be expected.
