Not clear: There is conflicting data regarding use of antidepressants later in life and all cause mortality although there is the notion that the medications are relatively benign. There is always going to be a risk benefit analysis that is necessary in addition to the number needed to treat or a number needed to harm with any medication reflecting the capacity to do both good and bad things to patients.
