Yes, anaphylaxis: Cough and feelings of chest congestion are two important signs of a severe allergic reaction, also known as anaphylaxis. Wheat allergy is a common food allergy. Progression to severe breathing difficulty is not predictable, the patient should be tested for confirmation and carry an Epipen (epinephrine) to use if unfortunately anaphylaxis presents.
