A member asked:

Has anyone had an allergic reaction to wheat where they cough and their lungs start to feel congested?

Anaphylaxis-wheat: This is very serious. Do not eat or touch wheat or wheat products until you see your doctor or see an allegy specialist. This sounds like an immune reaction called anaphylaxis, which can be very serious, and even cause death. Call your doctor today for an examination. There are medications that can keep you safer until you see an allergist.

Yes, anaphylaxis: Cough and feelings of chest congestion are two important signs of a severe allergic reaction, also known as anaphylaxis. Wheat allergy is a common food allergy. Progression to severe breathing difficulty is not predictable, the patient should be tested for confirmation and carry an Epipen (epinephrine) to use if unfortunately anaphylaxis presents.
