Pneumonia : Pneumonia is lung inflammation typically caused by an infection. Typical symptoms are fever, cough, chest pain and difficulty breathing. It is diagnosed either by having a doctor listen to your lungs when you breathe or a chest x-ray. Depending on how your lungs sound or what the x-ray looks like, your doctor may be able to tell whether it is a viral pneumonia or a bacterial pneumonia. Bacterial pneumonia requires antibiotics where as viral pneumonia needs to be watched carefully as the patient usually gets better on their own. Fungi and parasites can also cause lung infections that require different medications, though these are very rare. If you think you may have pneumonia, call your doctor for an exam and possibly a chest x-ray. If you are having any difficulty breathing, call 911 or go to the emergency room.

See below: See your doctor and get a chest examination and chest x-ray. If you have a bacterial pneumonia or empyema you will need antibiotic treatment.
