Several factors: Emerging from general anesthesia is very individual because each person has unique body chemistry and react differently. It depends on how long you were unconscious, what kind of anesthesia was used. Different anesthetic mixtures are used per the doctor's discretion. As people age, it can take longer to fully awaken from anesthesia. Pain medicines used may cause a longer period of drowsiness.
