Exam and X-rays: He will likely get a history and carefully examine your ankle for clicks, locking, or instability. If imaging reveals a loose piece than surgery may be recommended.

Walking boot: Walking boots are usually used for stable fractures (chip fractures). Many times physical therapy is ordered as well.
