Allergic asthma: There are multiple triggers for asthma including animal dander, smoke, cold air, exercise, pollen, etc. Asthma can also be intermittent or persistent. If the only trigger is cats and exposure is intermittent, then a person may only need to use a quick relief medication like ventolin with cat exposure.

Probably: If you had an abnormal methacholine challenge test - a special type of pulmonary function test - then you probably do have asthma. Sounds like you have a type that is called "extrinsic", meaning it is made worse by allergies. You may only need your ventolin when exposed to triggers you're allergic to. If you can't avoid them, or symptoms become more frequent, you may need additional meds.
