Syphilis: This disease is the great masquerader. If you think you may have been exposed you should be tested and also examined and tested for other stds, including hiv. Please see a doctor asap. Yes, syphilis can look like nearly anything.

Not syphilis: This almost certainly isn't syphilis, which doesn't cause such a localized rash, nor a rash that would fade within 4 days. But since syphilis is on your mind, probably it means you are at risk or suspect you may be. Therefore, you need testing -- also for HIV and other common STDs like gonorrhea and chlamydia. Good luck!
