Herpes: Herpes outbreak/cold sores will often start as a tingling sensation before the lesions appear. Herpes simplex is the virus that causes cold sores and mouth lesions. Other types of herpes virus cause other things like shingles and chicken pox or sexually transmitted disease. Herpes lives in nerve tracts, breaking out when resistence is down. It's why there is a tingling before the lesion shows.
