No and No: Patients with gilbert's syndrome have normal life expectancies and liver function. They do not have problems with normal liver functions. Drinking alcohol is ok with gilbert's, and similar to someone without gilbert's, drink responsibly. As further evidence that liver function is normal, a liver from a patient with gilbert's is suitable to be a donor for a liver transplant.

Wrong Dx a problem: Gilbert Syndrome is a common, harmless genetic condition in which a liver enzyme essential to the disposal of bilirubin is abnormal. The enzyme abnormality in Gilbert syndrome results in mild elevation of bilirubin after drinking Alcohol, dehydration, and starvation. The condition has also been referred to as constitutional hepatic dysfunction and familial nonhemolytic jaundice.

Yes: Alcohol is detrimental to health, with or without Gilbert's. Alcohol is a poison that never did anybody any good, ever, so stay away from it.
