Okay to start now: As long as you are reasonably sure that you are not pregnant , it is okay to start a birth control pill any time in your cycle.

It depends: It depends on whether you can be sure you're not pregnant--no sex in the last month, consistent birth control. If no risk of pregnancy, you can do a "quick start" and start anytime. Many doctors advise starting on the first day of a period. Use back up birth control for 7 days if you start anytime other than day 1 of your period.

Depends: If you have been using good birth control or not been having sex so you are positive you aren't pregnant (and a pregnancy test is negative) you can start your birth control pills now. You will have to use backup birth control this cycle. If you think it's possible you're pregnant then you have to wait until your period comes to be sure you aren't pregnant.
