Again it depends: Really it depends. A thoracotomy is a surgical approach to the chest. It can be done for many things. The length of follow-up is more dependent on why the thoracotomy was done. A cancer patient may need follow-up for years while a infectious reason may need follow-up for only a couple of months.

It depends: If a benign condition it can be infrequent if totally cured, may be released entirely to, primary doc. If cancer may be released to oncology. So ask the surgeon, what is the diagnosis, prognosis and plan.

Depends: Depends on the reason, if it is for a cancer, than often 5 years of cancer surveillance. If its for a benign reason, than once the patient is feeling ok, than as needed follow up is only necessary.

Depends: It is dependent on the individual surgeon. Most surgeons will see their patients back in two weeks, then turn care over to their primary physician. Some surgeons will follow patients for a much longer time, but that is up to the individual surgeon.
